A Simple Economic Fix

My proposal for a quick boost to our economy is simple: give every single adult $500 in a SNAP (food stamps) card and every family$1,000. While this may seem crazy to some, it actually is a very sane idea. The one sure-fired way to get the economy working for everyone is to get more money flowing into the system. Currently, money is flowing right into the bank accounts, both foreign and domestic, of the wealthy and big corporations, where it does nothing to help 95% of the citizens of our country. The wealthy and many large corporations who are making all the profits now tend to hoard that money. Hoarded money does not get into the economy for one simple reason, saturation. How many houses, cars, planes, yachts, jewels, etc. can one person own? Hoarded money does no good for the majority. It only means fatter bank accounts for the wealthy. That is why the money does little good for the 95%, the wealthy have little left to purchase whereas, a SNAP card for all, including the wealthy, will serve to stimulate our economy in a big way. The 95% are the ones with the real ability to stimulate growth. If each person, including the wealthy, recieves a SNAP card, they will spend it at the grocery, meaning more food is sold, forcing suppliers to hire more people. More cashiers will be hired, more stock boys will be needed, and ALL of these people will be paying more taxes because of working more hours. The wealthy can choose to let their card go to waste. That will not be a problem as they are only 5% of our economy. They really have very little power. In addition, people will have extra money to spend on the things they want, some on things they need because their 'food money' is now free to buy clothes, household goods, whatever they need and/or want. This spending will lead to more tax dollars, both income and sales, more people will be needed to serve those who are spending, more supplies will be needed because shelves that have gathered dust for years will be empty and need refilling. ALL this, that is good for our citizens will, in turn, be a huge boost to our economy. Poor and low-income peolple do not hoard money, they have none to spend so they have none to save. Saturation is not a problem with the 95%, because of the austerity programs that they have suffered for the last, far too many, years.
