Choice or NO Choice?

There is hardly a topic of discussion that is more volatile than 'abortion'. The current laws in the U.S. stem from the January 22, 1973, 7-2 decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in the case Roe v. Wade. The Court upheld that the right to privacy afforded to citizens, in the 'due process' clause of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, extended to a woman's right to have an abortion. No longer did a woman have to risk her life getting a back alley abortion, frequently in a city away from home, performed by a man or woman who may or may not have any medical experience at all. The Court's decision respected the rights of the State's in their concern for the protection of prenatal care and women's health. In other words, State's had the right to protect and care for the fetus, in utero, but only from the third trimester on and abortion clinics would be highly regulated by health and sanitary safety. Roe v. Wade has been the law of the land for 41 yrs. and while there have been many efforts to overturn this landmark decision, no Court has offered the possibility of such an act more than the one current sitting, the largely conservative bench of today.
I will say to you that I am not Pro-Abortion. I will say to you that I am not Anti-Abortion. I believe in respecting ALL LIFE. I find it confusing that those citizens voicing the loudest opposition to abortion. Those touting that the 'sanctity of life' must be preserved are those same citizens who are adamant about stopping all social entitlements. The people railing against abortion are the same people trying to negate the lives of the least of our citizens by increasing hunger and homelessness, by removing any modicum of dignity these people may have left. These people who hope to overturn Roe v. Wade have not helped the living with the free birth control of a woman's choice, better wages, jobs, good educations, affordable housing and healthcare. By taking care of all these needs, abortion will become unnecessary. In my mind, we cannot split hairs, either we bow to the sanctity of ALL llife or, we sink into the the depths of depravity and find sanctity in none.
