Has Anyone REALLY Read the Constitution of the United States of America?

If the Republicans, Libertarians, Tea Party members, et al. are going to continue to wrap themselves in the cloak of the Constitution, then I would suggest they need to READ IT!!
"We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." WOW! The preamble alone is quite compelling. 'In order to form a MORE perfect Union' tells me that the Founding Fathers had great hopes for the future of our country.
I think the Founding Fathers would find the Court system and the woeful state of the general rule of today, that which is filled with racial, financial and sexual injustice, an affront to their hopes of establishing equality and peace for all. We currently have a Supreme Court that is woefully inadequate when it comes to doling out 'Justice' and 'domestic Tranquility'. Lady Justice is almost completely absent for the majority of citizens of the United States. I dare say, that was not the plan of the great men who penned this tome.
We certainly have defense covered when it comes to our military but, what about the defense of the impoverished, weak and needy? Just ask anyone who has ever tried to stand up for themselves in the face of Big Business, the incredibly wealthy or simply, a 'bully'. Where is the 'common defense' then?
I find it intriguing that 'promote the GENERAL Welfare' was so important to these great men that they wrote it in the opening paragraph of, what has become (supposedly) the cornerstone of the United States of America. I wonder what the Founding Fathers would think when they walked the streets of Washington, D.C., today. I can't help but believe that they would be mortified by the impoverished, the ailing, the homeless and the very way the veterans of our great military are shunned and abused once they have completed their greatest task. I think they would hang their heads in shame.
In bygone eras, men have enjoyed the secure 'Blessings of Liberty' but, if you think about it, really sit down and think about it, for the majority of our citizens in today's world, 'that ship has sailed'. In the blaring reality of today's United States of America, the greatest portion of our citizenry work harder for less, struggle to keep a safe and secure home, face hunger, are largely unaided in times of need, are confronted with the reality of an unattainable education, may be jobless and homeless. So many of our citizens find themselves persecuted because of their race, gender, socioeconomic level and even, their creed. When the greatest among us are faced with all or any of the aforementioned realities it is impossible for them, or their posterity, to enjoy the 'Blessings of Liberty'.
I will continue to discuss the Constitution of the United States of America in future posts with the hope of educating my fellow citizens on the reality of that which our Nation was founded on.
